Favorable weather conditions helped firefighters gain the upper hand on two wildfires near Gunnison, officials said. Temperatures and wind speeds both eased on Saturday, allowing crews to surround one fire and bring the other to 25-percent containment, UPI reported. Stiff winds Friday rapidly spread the flames to a combined total of around 200 acres and forced the evacuation of 58 homes. The evacuees were allowed to return later in the day. The Denver Post said another 50 people were evacuated briefly on Friday when a large haystack near Anton caught fire and quickly spread into a field where workers at a large dairy farm were being quartered with their families in trailers.
