Two flames set off the fire alarm Thursday at a nuclear power plant in northern France, causing the automatic shutdown of one of the plant's two reactors. EDF, which operates the plant at Penly in the Normandy region, said the alarm was triggered by smoke in a room in the number two reactor. A spokeswoman for EDF told dpa that a pool of oil that leaked from a pump in the cooling system caught fire. Firefighters intervened quickly and extinguished the flames, EDF said in a statement, adding: "There have been no injuries and the installations are safe." Nuclear safety authority ASN and the local government were immediately informed of the incident, EDF added.
