Seven people, including five police officers, were killed Thursday in separate attacks in Karachi, Pakistan, officials said. Two police officers and two other people died when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives near a police carrier in the Malir Halt area of the city, while three police officers were killed by gunmen in the PIB colony neighborhood, Pakistani news agency INP reported. The outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the suicide attack, UPI reported. Police sources said a bomber crashed an explosives-packed motorcycle into a police armored personnel carrier, injuring 14 and killing four, including the attacker. In the other incident, officials said unknown armed men opened fire on a police vehicle in the PIB colony area of Karachi, INP reported. Officials said police were on patrol when they were fired upon by six to eight unidentified assailants, Geo News reported, adding that markets and other businesses were closed when area was overwhelmed by panic.
