U.S. President Barack Obama Friday signed the three-month extension of transportation legislation to keep federal highway and transit funding flowing, preventing a widespread shutdown of construction projects. Obama signed the extension before departing for Vermont, the White House said. Funding for transportation programs and levy federal fuel taxes would have expired on Saturday. This is the ninth extension since the last long-term law expired in 2009.
