The Lord's Resistance Army, an armed rebel group accused of atrocities in central Africa, has increased attacks leading to the displacement of thousands of people, dpa quoted UN refugee agency as saying Friday. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees said LRA troops recently attacked sites in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic and South Sudan. Those countries and Uganda last week launched military operations aided by the African Union to try to capture LRA commander Joseph Kony. The agency said in Geneva that LRA attacks drove more than 2,700 people from their homes in South Sudan. It said the LRA is responsible for the displacement of an estimated 440,000 people in Central Africa over the years, 335,000 in Congo.
