Syrian militants attacked an air force base near Damascus held by forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad early Friday, dpa quoted activists in the area as saying. "The militants attacked an intelligence air force headquarters in Arbeen, on the outskirts of Damascus," said Haytham al Abballah, a Syrian activist. The latest clashes came a day after an Arab summit in Baghdad called on Syria to implement "immediately" a plan for a ceasefire put forward by Kofi Annan, the envoy of the United Nations and the Arab League. The plan calls for the truce to be monitored by UN observers, the granting of access for humanitarian services, and inclusive talks to be held between the Syrian government and the opposition.
