The Pentagon said an Afghan drove a vehicle onto a British airfield in southern Afghanistan and into a ditch, exploding in flames, around the same time U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta's aircraft was landing Wednesday. Navy Captain John Kirby, a Pentagon spokesman, said no one in Panetta's party was injured. He said a pickup truck drove at high speed onto the ramp where Panetta's plane intended to stop. At this time, Kirby said that there was no immediate indication that the Afghan driver was attempting to attack Panetta's party. Initial reports said there were no explosives found in the vehicle or on the driver, who was being treated for burn injuries.
