Helicopters Begin Lifting Crew From Stranded Italian Tanker

Coast guard helicopters lifted to safety seven out of
19 crew members of an Italian oil tanker that ran aground off the
island of Sicily on Saturday, dpa reported.
The position of the Gelso M, which was listing after hitting rocks
in bad weather, made it "impossible to use lifeboats or coast guard
patrol boats," Italian coast guard official Cosimo Nicastro said.
