Myanmar's president has vowed that his government will continue the sweeping reforms it has instituted over the last year, according to AP. But Thein Sein says much remains to be done and his administration will have to work hard to convince skeptics at home and abroad that it is committed to democratic reform. Thein Sein made the comments in a speech to Parliament on Thursday, nearly one year after taking office as head of a nominally civilian government that replaced a repressive military junta that turned Myanmar into a pariah state. Thein Sein has orchestrated a wave of reforms, including freeing political prisoners, signing cease-fires with armed rebel groups, easing restrictions on the press and opening a dialogue with opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
