Prince Saud Al Faisal, the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, told the International Conference on Somalia, currently taking place in London, that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was among the first countries who sought since 1991 to bring about understanding among Somali rivals. Addressing the conference's opening session today, Prince Saud Al Faisal confirmed that his country is still keeping in contact with Somali forces whom it feels that they have sincere wish to end the aggravating crisis, citing the Somali National Reconciliation Arrangement concluded in Jeddah in 2009 under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Prince Saud Al-Faisal availed himself of the opportunity to convey the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the conferees, wishing them every success. Saudi Foreign Minister appreciated Britain's efforts to host this event and lauded the great meanings and significance the opening speech of British Prime Minister David Cameron has contained. He said he might not need to remind the attendees of the details of the disaster in Somalia and its impact on stability and peace of the region and the world at large. He confirmed that his country still believes that, to reach a fair and comprehensive solution of the problem in Somalia, any proposal should attract all factions without discrimination, provided that all rivals abide by the agreement that could be reached. He reminded that Saudi Arabia has several times donated money to alleviate the sufferings of Somali people, the last of which was the appropriation of $70 million in addition to a telethon by the Saudi public worth more than $53 million in 2009 and 2011. Moreover, Saudi Arabia has provided additional amounts of money in compliance with the Arab summit resolutions in this regard and thousands of tons of dates, foodstuffs, medical and accommodation supplies. He wished the conference every success through taking positions and decisions that would push Somali supporters more nearer to the end of the sufferings of the Somali people.
