Chaired by Minister of State, Member of the Cabinet and leader of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's delegation to the meeting Dr. Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, the Specialist Commission in charge of studying the proposal of moving the GCC from cooperation to union held its first meeting at the headquarters of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Riyadh today. Addressing the meeting, Al-Aiban said the welcome of the GCC leaders of the initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to promote the GCC from the phase of cooperation to union as well as the public opinion in the region are noble messages of the unity of vision of our leaders and people. He reminded that this notion was not born just today. It is as firm and deep-rooted as our countries, he added. He expressed confidence of Saudi Arabia in "this selected elite" to effectively do the job. For his part, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashed Al-Zayani, Secretary General of the GCC, said the move to union was the GCC leaders top priority since the beginning of the group's organization. Due to the great strategic importance of the issue, the leaders of the GCC have selected this expert-level panel to study and lay the foundation of the building of GCC union, wishing them every success.
