At least 24 children have died in refugee camps in Afghanistan as a result of freezing temperatures over the past two weeks, officials said Monday according to dpa. In all, more than 40 people have died in Afghanistan's coldest winter in more than a decade, Health Ministry spokesman Ghulam Sakhi Kargar said. Thousands of people live in make-shift huts in refugee camps spread around different areas of Kabul. Most of them have fled the decade-old bloody insurgency. A snowfall this week was the heaviest of the past 15 years, an official with the National Weather Centre said.
