Two Italian naval guards who allegedly shot dead two fishermen off India's south-western coast were taken into custody by police on Sunday, officials said. According to dpa, the Italian sailors, who were working on the oil tanker Enrica Lexie, allegedly fired at the fishermen off the coast of Kerala state on Wednesday, apparently mistaking them for pirates. The pair now face murder charges. The incident has triggered a diplomatic row, as Italy's version of events differed from India's. Senior police officer K Padmakumar said the accused had been brought to Kollam city.
