South Africa police: Miner hurt after protest

South African police found a seriously injured miner Friday, the morning after a day of violent protest in a platinum-rich region north of Johannesburg, AP reported.
Also Friday, police fired water cannon and tear gas to disperse several hundred protesters who had tried to disrupt work at a mine that has been the focus of violent protests, police spokesman Thulani Ngubane said. Thousands of miners, who were recently laid off after their strike for higher pay was declared illegal, protested Thursday.
