Officials say almost 100 cars were involved in two massive pileups on the major highway that connects the Czech capital Prague with the eastern part of the country and Slovakia. Police and the National Traffic Center say some 40 cars crashed in a series of accidents before midday Wednesday during a heavy snowstorm some 300 kilometers (186 miles) east of Prague. Two people escaped with light injuries, AP reported. They say dozens of vehicles, including a bus were involved in another crash some 100 kilometers (60 miles) southeast of Prague. The Czech public CT24 television said five people were injured in that crash. Officials have warned the highway will be blocked for many hours and meteorologists say snowstorms are expected to continue all across the country Wednesday.
