Two baby Bornean orangutan twins, the first to be bred in Hong Kong, made their public debut at the city's Zoological and Botanical Gardens Friday, according to dpa. But the brother and sister would not be seen with their mother, Raba, who has yet to accept the pair after rejecting them shortly after their birth in July. The twins, called Wah Wah and Wan Wan, had to be hand-reared by zoo staff, a challenging task, head veterinarian Eric Tai said. "We have put in a lot of work and provided full-time care to the babies," Tai said. The number of orangutans has dwindled by 80 per cent over the past century to about 50,000, largely as a result of loss of habitat in their native Borneo and Sumatra.
