The United States' top general will visit Egypt for security talks amid tensions over Cairo's move to press criminal charges on 19 American non-governmental organization workers, the Pentagon said Wednesday. General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will meet with his Egyptian counterpart Lieutenant General Sami Anan and top Egyptian military leader Field Marshall Hussein Tantawi this week. Dempsey's spokesman Colonel Dave Lapan said the visit has been planned for a long time and has nothing to do with Egypt's decision to try the non-profit American workers. However, Lapan said that the subject will likely come up during the talks.
