The best solution to ending the violence in Syria is political, and while the United States keeps all options open, it is focused on using diplomatic and economic measures to achieve that goal, the White House said Monday. “We believe the right solution in Syria is a political solution,” spokesman Jay Carney told reporters, echoing previous remarks by President Barack Obama. Earlier on Monday, Obama said in a television interview that he believes the ongoing conflict in Syria can be resolved without outside military intervention, and he pledged to apply further sanctions and additional pressure on the Syrian government.
