Panasonic Corp said Friday that it predicted a record net loss of 780 billion yen (10.2 billion dollars) for the current financial year through March due to restructuring costs and supply disruptions from the flooding in Thailand, according to dpa. That is much larger than the 420-billion-yen net loss that the company projected three months ago. Panasonic also projected an operating profit of 30 billion yen, compared with 130 billion yen it had expected in October. Sales are now projected at 8 trillion yen, down from 8.3 trillion yen. For the October-December quarter, Panasonic posted a net loss of 197.7 billion yen, a reversal from a net profit of 40 billion yen in the same period last year. Sales for the quarter dropped 14.2 per cent to 1.96 trillion yen while the company booked an operating loss of 8.1 billion yen, compared with an operating profit of 95.4 billion yen in the same period last year, the company said.
