Arish, Egypt, Rabi'I 8, 1433, Jan 31, 2012, SPA -- Around 25 Chinese workers were taken hostage Tuesday in central Sinai by Egyptian Bedouins who were demanding the release of their relatives from prison, witnesses told dpa. The protesting Bedouins blocked the main road in the centre of the Sinai peninsula, then kidnapped the Chinese cement factory workers while they were on their way to work. The protesters said they belong to the families of those detained on charges of involvement in the 2004 bombing in the Taba resort on Sinai's Red Sea coast that killed more than 30 people.
