The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will meet Turkish and Greek Cypriot Leaders in New York next week to discuss progress in peace talks that were launched in 2008. Mediators want a deal ending decades of separation between ethnic Greeks and Turks on the Mediterranean island before Greek Cypriots, take over the EU presidency in July. Turkey said it will freeze ties with the EU when Greek Cyprus assumes the EU presidency. The Greek Cypriot government has said it will block Turkey's EU-entry talks unless a settlement is reached with Ankara.
