A wildfire raged through brushland outside the city of Reno Nevada Friday, razing 26 houses, officials said. The Washoe Drive fire began Thursday afternoon and forced some 10,000 people to be evacuated. The fire was sparked when gusty conditions downed power lines with the flames spreading quickly in tinder-dry country that had not seen the usual winter rains. It was 50 per cent contained as of Friday morning as a wet front moved in, but 2,000 people were yet to return home, Reno Fire Battalion chief Tim Spencer said on local TV station KOLOTV.
