The Central Electoral Commission announced opening of 9,700 polling stations in numerous provinces, to ensure that over nine million registered civilians can cast their votes. Several political parties are competing for majority of seats in the parliament, which has been monopolized by the ruling party for many years. Public opinion polls this year suggest that the National Party could get as much as 80 percent of all votes, according to a report of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). Nearly a thousand international observers are monitoring the elections, and the results are expected to be announced tomorrow.
