Supporters of Taiwan's two leading presidential candidates pledged Friday to respect the eventual winner - even as they furiously campaigned against each other in the final hours of electioneering before Saturday's poll. Going into Friday, both parties were predicting narrow wins. The Nationalist Party said its candidate, incumbent President MaYing-jeou, would be re-elected by 500,000 votes. That translates to about 3 per cent of the vote, based on the usual turnout of 80 per cent of the 18 million eligible voters. The Democratic Progressive Party predicted a 200,000-vote win for its candidate, Tsai Ing-wen, or slightly more than 1 per cent.
