The Mexican government says more than 47,000 people have been killed in drug violence since President Felipe Calderon launched a military crackdown against drug cartels in December 2006. The Attorney General's Office says 47,515 drug-related killings occurred from December 2006 through September 2011. Prosecutors say in a statement Wednesday that the number of killings rose 11 percent in the first nine months of 2011 over the same period in 2010. They say 70 percent of the killings happened in eight of Mexico's 32 states, according to AP.
