A media report said that an overcrowded ship carrying more than 200 migrants from the Middle East has sunk off Indonesia's Java island, according to AP. The official Antara news agency said the wooden ship with a capacity 100 passengers sank Saturday off the coast of Prigi in eastern Java. It quoted Agus Sudarto, an official of the local government, as saying that just 25 people had been rescued so far by fishermen and were in critical condition at hospital. According to fishermen, the ship capsized about 20 miles (32 kilometers) off the coast. Indonesia's thousands of islands and miles (kilometers) of unpatrolled coastline have made it a key transit point for smuggling migrants. Many are trying to reach Australia.
