The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represented by the National Committee of the Clean Development Mechanism won the international competition for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The committee won the award for the best organization in providing a program to spread the culture of the clean development mechanism. The program aims to offer the best communication to introduce the projects of the organization and its role in the promotion of these projects to reduce emissions of greenhouse-gases causing the phenomenon of global warming and mitigate the effects of the climate change. The victory was declared in a special ceremony held in the city Durban, South Africa, on the sidelines of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on the Climate Change, during the period November 28 - December 9, 2011. Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Assistant Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for Petroleum Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee of the Clean Development Mechanism established by a cabinet decision and under the supervision of the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, said the Clean Development Mechanism encourages cooperation among the economies of developed, emerging and developing countries to reduce the quantities of emissions of greenhouse gases blamed for the global warming. The National Committee of Clean Development Mechanism provides a number of services in relation to clean development mechanism in the Kingdom.
