Indonesian authorities on Monday closed an airport in the country's north-east following a volcanic eruption, an official said. The Gamalama volcano in North Maluku province spewed thick ash on Sunday, prompting authorities to raise its alert status to the second-highest level. There were no casualties, DPA reported. "The Sultan Babullah airport was closed at 6 Monday morning (2300 Sunday GMT) as a precautionary measure after the eruption and will reopen tomorrow at 6," said Bambang Ervan, a spokesman for the Transport Ministry.
