AlHijjah 27, 1432, Nov 23, 2011, SPA - A strong 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit Bolivia on Tuesday, but the epicenter was deep underground and there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the epicenter was 533 kilometers underground and located 60 kilometers south-southwest of Trinidad, the capital of Bolivia's northern Beni region. The USGS initially reported a 6.7-magnitude earthquake, but revised its reading downward. The earthquake, which struck in early afternoon, was felt in major cities, including the capital La Paz in the west, Santa Cruz in the east, and Cochabamba in the center of the country, local media said. The strongest earthquake to hit Bolivia in the modern era was an 8.2-magnitude one in 1,994 that killed five people.
