AlHijjah 26, 1432, Nov 22, 2011, SPA - Tunisia's Constituent Assembly was set to convene Tuesday for the first time since last month's first free elections, which were won by 'Ennahda' party. The newly-elected 217-member assembly, which will be tasked with writing a new constitution over the next year, is to hold its inaugural session in the Bardo palace. On Monday night, the country's three main parties announced they had reached a deal to share the top posts in a power-sharing government, according to a report of the German Press Agency "DPA". Ennahda Secretary General Hammadi Jebali is to become Prime Minister, Moncef Marzouki, leader of the Congress for the Republic is to become President and Mustafa Ben Jaafar, leader of the social-democratic party Ettakatol is to preside the Constituent Assembly. "It's the best day of my life, it's the day of my liberation" Marzouki told reporters. The nominations have to be ratified by the assembly, which is expected to confirm its president as one of its first acts Tuesday. The assembly will also ratify a new executive to replace the interim government that has run the country since the former Tunisian President Zine El-Abidin Ben Ali went into exile.
