AlHijjah 24, 1432, Nov 20, 2011, SPA - Spaniards began voting Sunday in parliamentary elections, DPA reported. Nearly 36 million people were eligible to vote in the elections pitting conservative leader Mariano Rajoy, 56, against former interior minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, 60. Rubalcaba was chosen as the Socialist candidate after outgoing Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero decided not to seek a third term. Opinion polls have predicted that Rajoy's People's Party (PP) could win its largest majority ever in the 350-member parliament, the German Press Agency reported. The elections were marked by an unemployment of 21.5 per cent, the euro zone's highest by far.
