Italy government clears first of two parliament hurdles

AlHijjah 21, 1432, Nov 17, 2011, SPA -- Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti's newly appointed government on Thursday won the first of two mandatory confidence votes when it received the endorsement of the upper-house Senate.
The government won by 281 votes to 25 following a late evening debate.
