AlHijjah 15, 1432, Nov 11, 2011, SPA -- Small levels of a radioactive isotope have been detected across Europe, but the leak or accident causing the ongoing emission is unknown, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Friday in Vienna. Austria's Health Ministry and the Czech radiation protection agency said they had been detecting iodine-131 since the second half of October in the atmosphere, and that its calculations pointed to a source in south-eastern Europe. "The IAEA believes the current trace levels of iodine-131 that have been measured do not pose a public health risk and are not caused by the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident in Japan," dpa quoted the Vienna-based agency as saying.
