AlHijjah 13, 1432, Nov 9, 2011, SPA - Stocks rallied Tuesday after Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi agreed to resign. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 101.79, or 0.8 percent, to 12,170.18. Banks were among the big gainers, with Citigroup and J.P. Morgan Chase rising more than 2 percent. Shares of Bank of America also rose. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 14.80, or 1.2 percent, to 1,275.92. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index rose 32.24, or 1.2 percent, to 2,727.49. There were no U.S. economic reports issued Tuesday. The U.S. dollar fell versus the euro and the yen. Light sweet crude oil for December delivery rose $1.28 to $96.80 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold futures rose $8.10 to $1,799.20 an ounce.
