AlHijjah 10, 1432, Nov 6, 2011, SPA -- Police in Britain confirmed Sunday that the death toll from a 34-vehicle pile-up was seven, despite earlier fears there may be more bodies trapped in the burnt-out wreckage, dpa reported. Friday's crash, in which 51 people were injured, was one of the worst in recent history in Britain, and occurred during heavy fog. Police were also investigating whether a bonfire at a rugby club near the motorway, the M5 in Taunton, western England, could have contributed to poor visibility. Incident commander assistant chief constable Anthony Bangham said: "Overnight all the vehicles involved in this tragic incident have been removed from the scene. "Our worst fears have not been realized and the number of those that sadly lost their lives remains at seven." The M5 between junction 24 and 25 remained closed Sunday and motorists were asked to avoid the area if possible and delay any unnecessary journeys. The forensic removal of the vehicles had been completed, police added.
