AlHijjah 6, 1432, Nov 2, 2011, SPA -- A group of Canadian and international activists sailed from Turkey Wednesday in an effort to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza, dpa reported. According to a press release issued by the organization Canadian Boat to Gaza, the Canadian ship Tahrir and the Irish ship Saoirse have left Turkish territorial waters and are currently in the Mediterranean Sea, preparing to sail for Gaza within a matter of days. "While the Tahrir will be delivering much-needed medicines, ourprimary aim remains to help free Palestinians from the open-airprison known as Gaza," said Canadian Boat to Gaza organizer David Heap from on board the Tahrir. Activists from Australia, the United States and Palestine are onboard the ships that are transporting a small cargo of humanitarian aid. This is the second time that Canadian Boat to Gaza is attempting to break through Israel's naval blockade of Gaza. A previous attempt by an umbrella group of activists, including the Tahrir, failed when in July 2011 Greek authorities blocked the flotilla from leaving Greek ports. -- SPA
