AlQa'dah 28, 1432, Oct 26, 2011, SPA -- Singapore on Wednesday urged citizens visiting Bangkok to hasten their return from the Thai capital as the swelling river in the heart of Bangkok threatened to flood the city centre, dpa reported. "We urge Singaporeans visiting Bangkok to consider bringing forward their departure from Bangkok while Suvarnabhumi International Airport remains open, unless they have pressing reasons to remain there," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. It also advised Singaporeans to defer any non-essential travel to Bangkok. The warning came after Thai officials said levels of the Chao Phraya River had reached a record high and threatened to overflow. Flood walls might not hold and the inner zones of Bangkok could be under water, they said.
