AlQa'dah 27, 1432, Oct 25, 2011, SPA - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has congratulated the people and interim government of Tunisia for the peaceful holding of elections. "The historic legislative elections held Sunday were an important step, the secretary-general said in a statement issued by his office yesterday. “The secretary-general encourages all stakeholders to remain committed to the principles of inclusiveness and transparency throughout the remaining parts of the transition process,” the statement said. The United Nations, at the request of Tunisian authorities, provided technical assistance to support the elections, which were organized and managed by Tunisia. Ban emphasized that Tunisians “will always find the United Nations ready to offer its full support as they move towards a better and democratic future for themselves and for the generations to come.”
