AlQa'dah 25, 1432, Oct 23, 2011, SPA -- Tunisian National Constituent Assembly elections began this morning. As many as 7.3 million Tunisian voters are eligible for the elections to choose 217 lawmakers of the National Constituent Assembly, which devoted 199 of its seats for the electoral districts in Tunisia, and 18 were for Tunisians abroad. The number of registered voters is 4,439,527 voters distributed as 4,100,812 voters in Tunisia and 338,715 abroad. Tunisians abroad cast ballots on October 20, 21 and 22. Candidates for this election are about 11,618 people belonging to 655 independent lists, 828 party lists and 34 coalition lists, or about 1,517 lists. 77 parties and two party coalitions are participating in these elections among a total of 116 licensed political parties. Voters go to 7,213 polling stations in Tunisia. They will be open until seven pm (local time).
