AlQa'dah 14, 1432, Oct 12, 2011, SPA - The General Directorate of Civil Defense issued today a statement on the incident of the leakage of some gases from a factory in the first industrial zone in Dammam. It pointed out that the civil defense operations in the Eastern region received a tip on Tuesday evening on the incident of gas leakage in a factory belonging to the Middle East Industrial Company in the first Industrial Zone in Dammam, and immediately the incident was addressed by intervention teams in chemicals incidents of the Civil Defense, who found that the incident resulted from a leakage of the gases of nitrogen and hydrogen, and a proportion of carbon and this mixture is called Eobex material. The statement added all authorities in-charge of implementation of a plan of civil defense in cases of emergency for the response to chemicals' incidents were notified, which means mobilizing all bodies to address the incident and each body plays the roles assigned to it according to advance preparations ; noting that intervention teams dealt with the situation with the support of these bodies. "The incident resulted in 13 people suffering from breathing problems who received the necessary treatment at the hospital and were discharged, except for a baby girl." The Directorate of Civil Defense in the Eastern Province has alerted the population through news and satellite channels, broadcast of messages (sms) by telecommunications companies and through the channels of social communication, calling on people to take all precautions and follow up the instructions of civil defense. "Their positive response and interaction with these instructions, have limited the impact of the incident." The Civil Defense advised people of neighborhoods located in the vicinity of the first industrial zone to keep 2 kilo meters away for 48 hours, the expected duration of the gas remaining in the air.
