AlQa'dah 12, 1432, Oct 10, 2011, SPA -- Hurricane Jova strengthened into a major Category-3 hurricane Monday as it moved toward Mexico's Pacific coast, threatening beach resorts and one of the country's biggest cargo ports. Jova had maximum sustained winds approaching 200 kilometers per hour (kph) by Monday morning, and the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami said the storm would reach Category-4 strength, with winds of greater than 210 kph, on Tuesday before reaching land. The projected storm track would carry Jova's center near Barra de Navidad, south of the larger resort of Puerto Vallarta, late Tuesday. The Mexican government declared a hurricane warning for a 160-kilometer stretch of coast form just south of Puerto Vallarta to a point south of Manzanillo, one of Mexico's chief cargo ports. A tropical-storm warning was in effect further south. Jova was located about 400 kilometers southwest of Manzanillo and was moving east at about 7 kph, the NHC said.
