AlQa'dah 9, 1432, Oct 7, 2011, SPA -- Fighters loyal to Libya's transitional rulers engaged Friday in fierce clashes in the heart of Sirte, the hometown of the fugitive leader Moamer Gaddafi, in what commanders described as the final push to free the country, dpa reported. The anti-Gaddafi forces, who started the major ground attack early Friday, pushed into the centre of Sirte from several directions, launching their main assault on a conference hall which they say is a battalion base of Gaddafi loyalists. At least ten anti-Gaddafi troops were killed and more than 120 injured in the fighting, mainly from sniper shots, according to dpa. The rebel fighters also reported killing Gaddafi supporters but could not provide a number.
