AlQa'dah 6, 1432, Oct 4, 2011, SPA - Prince Abdulaziz bin Ahmed bin Abdulaziz, a Member of the Board of Trustees, and Chairman of the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness, stressed that the Eastern Mediterranean Region has achieved remarkable successes by taking the necessary measures to reduce the leading causes of visual disability. In his speech during a meeting of the Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean currently in progress in Cairo, the Prince commended the efforts of Arab Ministers of Health for their support for the development of programs for eye health and their support for the initiative " Vision 2020, Right to Sight'' in their countries through the adoption of three resolutions taken by the World Health Assembly to raise the level of eye care in Arab countries. He pointed out that global statistics on blindness, published by the World Health Organization, showed that the number of blind people decreased from 45 million to 39 million, and the number of blind people in the Eastern Mediterranean Region was estimated at 4.9 million, compared to 5.3 million in the past few years.
