The White House on called for a "full transfer of power" in Yemen and condemned the use of violence in the country, as President Ali Abdullah Saleh made a surprise return to Sanaa. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said that the U.S. "condemns the use of violence" in the country, and urged presidential elections to take place in compliance with a plan put forward by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). A "political solution is the best way to prevent bloodshed," Carney said.
