Nepal was on course to run out of pediatric anti-retroviral drugs in the next month, affecting over 300 children infected with HIV, local media reported Friday, according to dpa. The shortage was set to last between four and six months, after the United Nations Development Programme stopped its supply, the Kathmandu Post reported, citing the National Centre for AIDS and STD Control. The UN says the suspension in supply was caused by a delay in the release of funds by The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM). The UNDP office in Nepal said orders had been placed and would take around six months to arrive. The adult version of the anti-retroviral drugs were also due to run out in the next couple of months, HIV-AIDS patient and activist Rajeev Kafle said. Over 5000 people in Nepal are living with HIV, 300 of them children. -- SPA
