North-eastern India was hit Sunday by an earthquake that registered at a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter Scale, the US Geological Survey reported. According to dpa, the epicentre was reported near the city of Sikkim, at a depth of about 7.4 kilometers, at 1240 GMT. Local media reported that the quake was felt broadly across the country and that it had knocked out large parts of the communication network. But it was generally referred to as "mild." There were no reports yet of deaths or injuries.
