A man has been charged with child abuse for throwing his son overboard while on a harbour cruise in Southern California, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday according to dpa. The report said that Sloan Steven Briles, 35, slapped his seven-year-old son in the face repeatedly before picking him up and throwing him overboard into the busy Newport Beach harbour in August. The child was pulled from the water by passengers on another boat. Briles, who is free on 100,000 dollar bail, faces a maximum of six years in prison if found guilty.
