Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, headed the delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the ministerial meeting of Arab Peace Initiative Committee which started here yesterday with the participation of Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. The meeting was attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas; Vice-President of the European Commission Catherine Ashton; and Japan's Envoy to the Middle East Yutaka Imura. Addressing the meeting, Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani, who chaired the meeting, stressed the legal and moral right of the Palestinian people to a Palestinian state, calling on all countries to abide by this right and seek to apply it and enable the Palestinian people to exercise it. He also called for considering the developments, following up the situation and taking necessary steps within the framework of international efforts in support of the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state and submit the right of the recognition of the Palestinian state to the General Assembly of the United Nations for obtaining full membership at the Organization of the United Nations.
