The Egyptian government has suspended a controversial rule requiring that foreign visitors obtain entry visas before their arrival, dpa quoted a tourism official as saying on Sunday. "The tourism minister has agreed with the cabinet to freeze the decision and keep rules on obtaining tourist visas for Egypt unchanged," Heshm Zazou of the tourism ministry said. The rule, which travel agencies say had been introduced without consulting them, requires visitors to apply for visas at Egyptian embassies abroad instead of getting them upon arrival at Cairo airport. "This decision has caused a lot of confusion among those dealing with the Egyptian tourism inside and outside the country," Zazou told the German Pess Agency dpa. He added that its enforcement would have badly affected the country's tourism industry.
