Imane Merga of Ethiopia was disqualified and stripped of his 5,000 world championship metres bronze for running outside the track during Sunday's race, according to dpa. The ruling body IAAF said that compatriot Dejen Gebremeskel would move from fourth to bronze behind British winner Mo Farah and Bernard Lagat. Merga had already received his medal at the victory ceremony and was completely unaware of his fate until a journalist asked him to comment during the post-race news conference. Merga, who won 10,000m bronze last weekend, declined to talk. The Ethiopian team was said to be appealing against the disqualification.
